Southeast Texas, Mexico, and Southwest Detroit have interconnected ties that link all regions to families, culture, and food. Samuel Alvarado is a Mexican American with family roots in America dating back to his grandfather. His grandfather opened Mexican Fiesta restaurant in Dearborn in the 1960’s and since has sustained his Uncles, Father, and his family. The upbringing or education, culture, and love for Mexico have impacted Sam’s view of the world. Hard work, entrepreneurship, and family are the values Sam’s grown into truth overtime. We discuss Texas, Mexico, and how Mexican culture is loved and misunderstood in America. This was a fun discussion into what can expand opportunity, love, and vision of family growth. Keir Worthy is a true Detroiter, someone with many skills and talents. Hip-hop Music's history is linked to Keir, International Design is linked to Keir, and African Centered Education is of Keir. While attending the University of Texas in the late 80's he introduced SXSW to all Black Music (including Hip-hop), and has worked in record promotions and marketing for of 25 years. Managing acts like Brand Nubian, 3rd Bass, Snow, and many more is his pedigree. Currently he's working on Wakandacon in Chicago August 3 - 5, 2018 and the Detroit is Different Film Fest in October 2018. This was an interesting discussion. Detroit is Different because people like Satori are here. Formally trained in classical music, she wound up baptized in the Funk performing with George Clinton and the Parliment for years. Then to Hawaii, LA, and Toronto, she's back in Detroit now. Satori's Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers is often imitated but sincerely missed because Satori is the gateway for the creativity.
